S.O.N.S. HATCHERY OPERATIONS 2011 |

For 26 years the S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie has operated a hatchery at the foot of Chestnut St. in Erie as part of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission's Co-Operative Nursery program. This year beginning in January the hatchery was brought on line by Hatchery Manager, Bob Zawadzki, our intern, Mike Show, Don Tombaugh and 3-CU volunteers. Approx 80,000 steelhead eggs were obtained by Bob Hetz from 3-CU.The hatch was successful and the steelhead were kept until the arrival of walleye and perch eggs from PFBC's hatchery at Linesville, PA. The eggs hatched and as usual an open house was held on April 30 and May 1. The fry were stocked on May 2nd bringing the 2011 hatchery season. |
